Sharon Burns Accepts Senior Vice President Position at the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans

“This newly created position calls for a unique combination of association and employee benefits industry knowledge, and I feel that we’ve found the ideal mix in Sharon,” said International Foundation CEO Michael Wilson.

As Senior Vice President, Burns will oversee the strategic direction of the organization’s research, publications, designation and educational program divisions.

Burns comes to the Foundation from the Ohio-based Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education (AFCPE) where she was the executive director.

Prior to her position with AFCPE, Burns was an assistant professor teaching financial planning at The Ohio State University. She has published research focusing on retirement planning issues for Baby Boomers. In addition, she co-authored How to Care for Your Parents’ Money While Caring for Your Parents, published by McGraw Hill.

Sharon owned private accounting and software development firms which specialized in tax and retirement planning. She has served on a number of high profile board and committees whose missions are financial planning related, include the Jump$tart Coalition for Financial Literacy

Sharon received her Ph.D. in Consumer and Family Economics from Purdue University. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Family Financial Planning from Purdue University and a Master of Science degree in Consumer Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The International Foundation is a nonprofit educational association which provides information and education to those who manage employee benefit and compensation plans. Its headquarters are in Brookfield, Wisconsin.
