Insurance Agents, Brokers and Adjusters
Insurance professionals licensed in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Ontario can use Primer courses to meet continuing education requirements. Each province accepts 15 credit hours for each course when the test is passed. Alberta accepts 7.5 of hours of life and 7.5 hours of accident and sickness credit for the Group Life and Health Primer. Quebec has assigned recognition number CSF07-04-15472 to the Group Life and Health Online Primer course and awards 15 continuing education units (PDUs) in Sector 3-Group Insurance of Persons. CEBS is currently seeking approval in Quebec for the the Retirement Online Primer course.
Reporting Credit
In most cases, the Certificate of Completion received from the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and Dalhousie University upon successful completion of a Primer test can be used as proof of completion. To document your credit, sign a copy of the completion certificate and indicate the number of hours approved before forwarding it to your provincial insurance council or commission. Detailed reporting procedures are available from each province.
If you are licensed in Alberta or Manitoba, complete the Continuing Education Credit section of the Primer Order Form to request a special certificate of completion issued by the International Foundation. A $25 service fee per course is charged when credit is requested.
Property/Casualty Agents
Credit is not deemed to be technical insurance credit for property/casualty license holders.
