Exam Tips

On the Day of the Exam

Admission Tickets/Identification

Approximately ten days prior to the examination day, you will receive an admission ticket to the exam site for the examination(s) you are scheduled to take, along with other pertinent information.

You should receive a separate admission ticket for each exam you are scheduled to take. The location of the exam and parking instructions/directions (if applicable) appear on the front of the admission ticket. Be certain to check the location of each exam as it may be different for some courses.

This admission ticket, accompanied by a driver’s license or signed photo identification card, must be presented to the proctor before you will be admitted into the examination room.

If you are unable to arrive at the specified time, you may begin your exam up to 60 minutes late but you will not be allowed to make up the lost time.

There can be no deviation in the date or time of your exam as shown on the admission ticket. Failure to appear for an examination results in forfeiture of the examination application fee unless you submit an examination extension request and appropriate fee.

Reporting to the Test Center

The location of the exam and parking instructions/directions (if applicable) appear on the front of the admission ticket.

Be sure to allow yourself plenty of time for travel and for parking. If you need further assistance in locating the test site, call the number listed on the front of the admission ticket.

It is essential that you bring three or four sharpened #2 pencils (with erasers), and you may wish to bring a watch. No scratch paper will be necessary or permitted. All personal belongings will be left in a designated area of the room. Please be in the exam room 15 minutes prior to the start of your examination for seat assignment and final instructions.

Severe Weather Emergency Policy

It is the candidate’s responsibility to ascertain whether or not the exams are being administered on schedule by calling either the number on the admission ticket at the exam centre or the CEBS office.

If the exam centre is open and the proctor is able to administer the exams, it is the candidate’s responsibility to report for the exam or reschedule it to the next semester. (In some instances, exam centres located in large metropolitan areas will be open; and candidates who live or work in close proximity to the centre will be able to sit for the exam, while others who live in outlying areas will not be able, or may choose not, to drive to the exam.)

If the centre is closed and the proctor cannot administer the exam at the scheduled time, thus necessitating the rescheduling of the entire exam session, the exam session will be rescheduled as close to the original time of the exam as is feasible.(This may be later the same day or the following day.)

The decision to reschedule an exam will be made by the CEBS program. It will not be possible to consider personal schedules or business commitments, since the decision must be based on testing room and proctor availability.

For reasons of exam security, it is not possible for some candidates to take the exam at the scheduled time while others take the exam later that day or the next day. The entire group of examinees will be rescheduled to the soonest possible time.

Test Session

Exam Format

The two hour examination contains 100 multiple-choice questions evenly distributed among the 15 assignments. Three basic types of questions are used: (1) the straight answer type, (2) the multiple option type and (3) the “all EXCEPT” type. An effort is made to maintain a reasonable balance in the number of each type of question used in the examination. Refer to your Study Manual or Learning Guide for examples of the three types of questions used in the CEBS exam.

Exam Results

Examination results are sent out approximately 20 days after the examination and include a record for all examinations passed. Because of the professional nature of the program, grades are reported on a pass/not passed basis. No numerical or letter grade is provided. A pass grade is based on scoring 70% on the examination.

If you do not pass an examination, you will receive a confidential grade analysis which may be of assistance in preparing for a future examination for that course.

Calculator Policy for All CEBS Exams

CEBS examinees are permitted to use a hand-held, silent, battery operated or solar powered calculator for all CEBS examinations. The calculator cannot have an alphabetic keyboard or a paper tape. Calculator instructions cannot be brought into the examination room. Use of a calculator which exceeds these guidelines may result in disqualification of the examination written.

Although a calculator is not required for any CEBS examinations, examinees may feel more comfortable using a calculator for any quantitative problems. Candidates are permitted to use a nonprogrammable simple hand-held calculator. Financial calculators are not allowed for these examinations.

Examination Application Options

Exam Extension/Transfer

If you are unable to sit for a scheduled examination, whether for business or personal reasons, it is possible to purchase an examination extension for a future examination date, or the fee can be transferred to another course. The extension fee is $125 per examination and must accompany the completed CEBS Examination Application form. The examination extension request and appropriate fee must be postmarked on or before the date of your examination.

If you choose to extend your examination, please note that the study materials purchased in preparation for the examination may not be current for a future examination.

Because fees are not refundable or transferable to another individual, if you do not sit for an examination or extend it to a future examination date, you will forfeit the examination fee.

Retake

If you do not pass an examination, you may take another scheduled examination for that course upon submission of a new application form and payment of the full examination fee. There is no limit to the number of times you may take an examination for a CEBS course that is not passed.
