ATMS® Part II Pensions

Friday, August 13 - Saturday, August 14, 2010
Fairmont Chateau Whistler, Whistler, BC

In conjunction with the Canadian Investment Institute and the Canadian Public Sector Pensions and Benefits Conference.

Brief Description

The concentrated agenda of Part II Pensions incorporates a sophisticated assessment of the relationship between benefits, funding and investment policies and the key components of plan administration requiring board oversight. Plan design and detailed information on dissecting the actuarial valuation are reviewed. The role and accountability of the board and administrators is thoroughly analyzed. Expert practitioners examine the risk assessment and due diligence process, asset allocation decisions and the monitoring of investment managers. Additionally, ways to measure and benchmark performance are treated in depth.

Topics will include:

  • Funding and Plan Design
  • Strategic Administrative Practices
  • Investments
  • Case Studies
On day two, attendees will be divided into small work groups to participate in case studies. The case study will be distributed on the first day of class and should be  read that evening in preparation for the next day’s discussion. Please plan your schedule accordingly.

Prerequisites

  • Before beginning an ATMS course, you must have served three or more years as a trustee in a senior-level, policy-setting role (waived for public sector trustees).
  • Previous attendance at an educational program for new trustees such as the Foundations for Trustees courses is strongly recommended.
  • While it is permissible to take either of the ATMS Part II courses before ATMS Part I, it is important to note that ATMS Part I is designed to lay the foundation for ATMS course work. In order to maximize your learning experience, it is highly recommended that ATMS Part I be taken before ATMS Part II.
