ATMS® Part II Pensions

Tuesday, May 22 - Wednesday, May 23, 2012
Victoria Conference Centre, Victoria, BC

Held in conjunction with the Canadian Legal and Legislative Update.

Brief Description

The concentrated agenda of Part II Pensions incorporates a sophisticated assessment of the relationship between benefits, funding and investment policies and the key components of plan administration requiring board oversight. Plan design and detailed information on dissecting the actuarial valuation are reviewed. Expert practitioners examine the risk assessment and due diligence process, asset allocation decisions and the monitoring of investment managers.

Topics will include:

  • Funding and Plan Design
  • Strategic Administrative Practices
  • Investments
  • Case Study
(On day two, attendees will be divided into small work groups to participate in a case study. The case study will be distributed on the first day of class and should be read that evening in preparation for the next day’s discussion. Please plan your schedule accordingly.)

Attendance required. To earn credit toward the ATMS certificate, you must be present for the entire program, including all case study group work. Please make your travel plans accordingly.

Prerequisites

  • Before beginning an ATMS course, you must have served three or more years as a trustee, or in a senior-level, policy-setting role for a pension fund (waived for public sector trustees).
  • Previous attendance at an educational program for new trustees such as any of the Foundation for Trustees or the new FTMS courses is strongly recommended.
  • While you may take Part II before Part I, please note that Part I is designed to lay the foundation for ATMS course work. In order to maximize your learning experience, we highly recommend that you take Part I before
    Part II.
