Victoria Conference Centre, Victoria, BC

Last time offered.

Held in conjunction with the Canadian Legal and Legislative Update.

Brief Course Description

Part II of the ATMS curriculum in Group Benefits begins by focusing on the challenges faced by trustees of group benefit plans, including ensuring retiree security as the number and longevity of retirees continues to grow, as well as responding to the pressures from rising costs while maintaining the quality of benefit programs and complying with privacy legislation.

Topics will include:

  • Benefit Trends
  • Group Disability Experience Trends
  • Underwriting Concepts and Plan Funding Alternatives
  • Plan Design Overview
  • Work Health Issues
  • Administrative and Industry Issues
  • Health and Dental Cost Analysis
  • Case Studies

(On day two, attendees will be divided into small work groups to participate in case studies. The case study will be distributed on the first day of class and should be read that evening in preparation for the next day’s discussion. Please plan your schedule accordingly.)

Attendance required. To earn credit toward the ATMS certificate, you must be present for the entire program, including all case study group work. Please make your travel plans accordingly.

Prerequisites

  • Before beginning an ATMS course, you must have served three or more years as a trustee in a senior-level, policy-setting role (waived for public sector trustees).
  • Previous attendance at an educational program for new trustees such as any of the Foundation for Trustees or the new FTMS courses is strongly recommended.
  • While it is permissible to take either of the ATMS Part II courses before ATMS Part I, it is important to note that ATMS Part I is designed to lay the foundation for ATMS course work. In order to maximize your learning experience, it is highly recommended that ATMS Part I be taken before ATMS Part II.
