Continuing education opportunities for ATMS graduates introduced

Since 2000, Canadian trustees of both pension funds and health and welfare funds in either the multi-employer or the public sector have turned to the ATMS program for their educational needs. ATMS provides thorough, advanced education in these critical areas:

  • Fiduciary responsibility
  • Underwriting methods
  • Governance
  • Managing plan costs
  • Funding and plan design
  • Communication
  • Administration
  • Ethics
  • Investments
  • Leadership.

As previously announced, the ATMS program is being revised with the first new course to be unveiled in November 2012. Those wishing to complete an ATMS certificate under the current program must do so before November.

ATMS courses can go a long way toward helping you fine-tune your strategic capabilities, ensure compliance, minimize risks and strengthen board management. During intense, interactive learning sessions, you will examine every aspect of your plan’s objectives and organization, and learn how to select strategies and tools for achieving a high level of performance.

Certificates Available

The ATMS® program presents an educational path that continually challenges you as you grow in your knowledge and experience. Two levels of certificates are offered in two separate tracks.

Level 1 – Management Certificates

Level 2 – Leadership Certificate

Who Is Eligible to Participate?

ATMS is designed for experienced trustees and others who have

  • Mastered the basic principles and practices of trusteeship and who wish to advance to the next level
  • Served three or more years as a trustee, or in a senior-level, policy-setting role for the respective type of fund. (This requirement is waived for public sector trustees.)

Additionally, consultants, administrators and other professionals working for boards of trustees also have benefited from participation in the ATMS program. Previous attendance at an educational program such as Foundations of Trust Management Standards is strongly recommended.
