Bill Tugaw is president of SST Benefits Consulting & Insurance Services, Inc. He serves primarily large employers in both public and private sectors specializing in alternative financing and managed care of benefit plans, workers’ compensation and 457 deferred compensation/defined contribution plan consulting.
Bill grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is married and has a son. For fun, Bill enjoys flying airplanes, both business and pleasure; playing golf; catch and release fly fishing; and skiing.
A hot topic on DC plans from Bill's perspective is: The pressure placed on individuals to be able to retire at a reasonable age and be financially secure, particularly in light of escalating medical costs and coverage issues is huge. This is a problem that is not only not going to go away, but is accelerating at an astounding rate. Addressing ways to deal with these issues early in the actively working years is critical.
Bill instructs and lectures on a variety of comprehensive topics for public employers including employer strategies and options as well as compliance and plan development for repositioning defined contribution benefits in retirement strategies. When asked about his approach to teaching, he said, "I think teaching is best accomplished with significant classroom interaction (i.e. experience exchange), real life situation examples, fun, and humor."
Bill is co-author of Deferred Compensation/Defined Contribution: New Rules/New Game for Public and Private Plans and Defined Contribution Decisions: The Educational Challenge. He is the past president of the California Association of Health Underwriters (CAHU) and past president of the Silicon Valley Association of Health Underwriters (SVAHU). Bill is a graduate of Arizona State University with a bachelor of science degree in business.
Bill team teaches the new Certificate Series course, Public Sector Defined Contribution Plans, with Paul Hackleman.
