Foundations for Trustees

Educational opportunities for new Canadian trustees

Time to refocus your thinking. As a trustee, you have become a guardian of the benefits your plan participants depend upon. The decisions you make affect many—it’s up to you to build a strong personal foundation that can withstand the adversities you may face throughout your trusteeship. The Foundations for Trustees is your starting point.

Foundations for Trustees offers frameworks and processes to ensure that you are maintaining the highest standards of ethics and excellence as you take on your role as a fiduciary. Three separate courses provide a solid knowledge base for your first few years as a trustee.

Follow our progressive educational path, focusing on pensions or health and welfare

Foundations for Trustees and the ATMS® program provide you with all the tools you need to achieve success as a trustee, every step of the way. Participation in Foundations for Trustees 1 is recommended as a starting point, followed by Foundations for Trustees 2 Pensions or Foundations for Trustees 2 Group Benefits.

How do the Foundations for Trustees programs relate to the ATMS® program?

The Foundations for Trustees courses are designed to provide fundamental and intermediate-level knowledge needed for effective trusteeship. The courses are an excellent source of preparation for all new trustees. Those planning on participating in the Advanced Trustee Management Standards (ATMS®) program will find these courses to significantly enhance their ATMS® experience.

Who Should Attend

The Foundations for Trustees program is designed for newly appointed multiemployer and public sector plan trustees, administrators and professional advisors looking for a foundational understanding of the operation of a trust fund.
