Congress has finally approved historic legislation that requires full parity between the mental health/substance abuse benefits and the medical/surgical benefits offered under a group health plan. Among the questions to be answered during the Webcast are:
- What are the financial and treatment limitations that can apply to mental health/substance abuse benefits that may be no more restrictive than those applied to the medical/surgical benefits provided by the plan?
- How might a plan’s existing medical management provisions come into play under the new parity requirements?
- Will the “cost increase exemption” contained within the law provide plan sponsors any meaningful relief?
- If the plan currently provides out-of-network medical/surgical benefits, must they also be available for mental health/substance abuse treatment?
- How much time is there to react, and when do the changes go into effect?
