New Members of ERISA Advisory Council Announced

Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis has announced the appointments of five new members to the 2012 Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans — known as the ERISA Advisory Council. She also announced the appointment of the incoming chair and vice chair of the council. The 15-member council provides advice on policies and regulations affecting employee benefit plans governed by ERISA. By law, members of the council serve for staggered three-year terms. Employee organizations, employers and the general public are represented by three members for each category. Additionally, there is one representative each from the fields of insurance, corporate trust, actuarial counseling, investment counseling, investment management and accounting.
Current members Mildeen Worrell and Karen Kay Barnes will serve as the chair and vice chair, respectively, of the council.
The newly appointed members are:
  • Ralph C. Derbyshire, senior vice president and deputy general counsel, FMR LLC, the parent company of Fidelity Investments, Boston
  • James English, treasurer of the Blue Green Alliance and Blue Green Alliance Foundation, Pittsburgh
  • Cindy Hounsell, president of the Women's Institute for a Secure Retirement (WISER), Washington, D.C.
  • David C. Kaleda, partner at Alston & Bird LLP, Washington, D.C.
  • Neal S. Schelberg, senior partner at Proskauer Rose LLP, New York.
