Job Description:


Manages the planning and administration of the various U.S. employee retirement income programs (defined benefit, cash balance, 401(K), non-qualified supplemental). Plans cover over 5,000 employees plus 3,000 retirees and deferred vested. Implement new benefits initiatives. Manages plan audits, regulatory reporting and disclosure. This position functions as primary liaison with vendors providing legal, actuarial, HRIS, and outsourcing services for employee retirement plans. This Manager has the primary responsibility for the communication of the benefit plans to employees, including printed materials, Intranet summaries and notices, seminars and meetings. This position reports to the Director, Corporate Benefits.

Manages outsourced vendors to ensure accurate and timely payment of benefits for Pension and 401k Plans.

Handles complex benefit inquiries and complaints to ensure quick, equitable and courteous resolution. Maintains contact in person, and by phone or mail, with employees, retirees and beneficiaries to facilitate proper and complete utilization of benefits for all employees.

Develops specifications for new plans or modifies existing plans to maintain company’s competitive position in labor market.

Installs approved new plans and changes by preparing announcement material, booklets, and other media for communicating new plans to employees. Arranges for enrollment of employees in optional plans. Conducts employee benefit seminars for local personnel. Revises and reissues all communications material on benefits from time to time. Advises and counsels management and employees on existing benefits.

Prepares and executes, with legal consultation, benefit documentation such as original and amended plan texts and benefit agreements. Manages trustees, recordkeepers, custodians and other administrative vendors to effect changes in benefit programs. Ensures prompt and accurate compliance.

Assists in development of company bargaining proposals for employee benefits and analyzes union benefits demands. Obtains and prepares cost data for company and union proposals and implements changes as appropriate.

Assures company compliance with provisions of Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

Supervises preparation of reports and applications required by law to be filed with federal and state agencies, such as Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, and other regulatory agencies.

Reviews and analyzes changes to state and federal laws pertaining to benefits, and reports necessary or suggested changes to management.

Coordinates company benefits, with government sponsored programs.

Manages annual audit process and maintains SOX compliance.

Assures that existing and new benefit programs are adaptable to standardized computer and reporting systems. Develops benefit information and statistical and census data for actuaries and management.

Evaluates and compares existing company benefits with those of other employers by analyzing other plans, surveys, and other sources of information. Plans, develops, and/or participates in area and industry surveys. Analyzes results of surveys and develops specific recommendations for review by management.

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required with MBA preferred.
CEBS and/or CBP a plus.
5-7 years retirement plans experience, 2-3 years in a managerial role required.
Strong oral, written, and analytical skills.
Excellent team-building and facilitation skills.
Ability to manage multiple deadline-oriented priorities.
Ability to deal with ambiguity and adapt to a changing environment.
Prior experience in health and welfare plans is highly desirable.
Experience in outsourcing and international benefits is a plus.
Proficient with MS-Office applications.
