The American Chemical Society is one of the world’s oldest and largest scientific membership associations and science publisher.
This position administers selected benefits programs, policies and procedures and researches, recommends and assists in the development of programs, policies and procedures. The position requires an understanding of the internal structure of the Society, including the Columbus operation, since many major initiatives are developed jointly between the Washington and Columbus HR staffs. • College degree (relevant field) or equivalent experience; 4+ years of experience in human resources/benefits; an advanced degree may be substituted for work experience. • Microsoft Office Suite skills at an intermediate level. • Excellent oral, written, organizational and presentation skills. Excellent customer service skills. 1) Administers benefits programs, policies and procedures; researches, recommends and assists in the development of benefits programs, policies and procedures. 2) Examines possible plan design or benefit cost changes by evaluating and revising internal processes to reduce costs and increase efficiencies. 3) Benchmarks and participates in market surveys conducted by other companies to determine the competitiveness of the Society’s programs and to obtain data to support changes in benefits programs, policies and procedures. Assists with the evaluation of current programs, policies and procedures and recommends changes. 4) Prepares and maintains records, reports, summaries and analyses of data. Conducts research. 5) Participates in the development of benefits plans and communications for programs, policies, and procedures. 6) Keeps up-to-date on legislation and regulations affecting programs; complies with legal provisions and reporting requirements. 7) Keeps up-to-date on provisions in ACS benefits plans. Counsels managers and employees on policies, programs and individual treatments related to benefits. 8) Acts as a liaison between the ACS and outside vendors/auditors in handling administrative duties or resolving problems related to plans administered. Provides input to senior staff on the performance and activities of contractors/outside vendors who perform work for HR. 9) Coordinates events, such as wellness fairs, CPR training, etc. 10) Assists with or conducts formal presentations on benefits. 11) Assists with the maintenance of benefits documentation. 12) Prepares and monitors budgets.
