PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
THE COLLEGES OF APPLIED ARTS AND TECHNOLOGY PENSION PLAN, TORONTO, ON 1996 – 2008 Director, Client Service Managed the client relationships and administration of a defined benefit pension plan with 25 participating employers and over 30,000 participants. • Processed, through a staff of six, in excess of 1,000 terminations and retirements annually with a two week turn-around period, 95% of the time. • Set a 48 hour reply standard for all written, email and telephone enquiries, accomplished 99% of the time • Solved local administration issues and provided updates of new developments in legislation and amendments at the plan a program of annual visits to the 25 participating employers through an annual visit program • Developed and presented educational sessions for new and employer administrators thereby reducing enquiries by 15% and improving service at the employer level • Created and delivered information sessions for plan participants which were presented at employer locations across the province, averaging 15 sessions a year. • Reorganized the service delivery model from specialist to generalist thereby improving quality of service as well as staff job satisfaction thereby improving staff moral substantially. • Coordinated the development and installation of pension administration computer systems, Arial from Morneau Sobeco and Penfax from James Evans & Associates, from specifications to user testing to improve system functionality and thereby improve service delivery
ONTARIO MUNICIPAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM (OMERS), TORONTO, ON 1991 – 1995 Manager, Managed Plans Managed the timely administration of two defined benefit pension plans with a total of 32,000 participants and 26 employers. • Provided third party pension administration to two pension plans which involved in excess of 800 terminations and retirements per year within legislative deadlines at all times. • Led staff through the development and installation of a complex mainframe administration system and a subsequent stand alone system thereby improving service delivery • Maintained excellent staff morale in a politically charged situation resulting in high staff retention. • Represented the organization on the Pension Consultative Committee, an adversarial tripartite committee established by government and maintained an excellent relationship with all parties involved.
CANADA REVENUE AGENCY, OTTAWA, ON 1990 – 1991 Pension Officer Reviewed defined benefit pension plans for compliance with the Income Tax Act and replied to hotline enquiries into the new pension adjustment system and general legislative issues • Provided expert information on the legislation regarding pension adjustments responding to approximately 1,000 calls each year. • Reviewed about 250 pension plan texts annually and provided feedback in writing on legislative deficiencies • Provided input to regulators regarding issues raised by actuaries and other pension advisors
