Assistant Vice President, Pensions Administration

§ Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Pensions Department, including direct supervision of plan administrators and administrative support personnel.

§ Manage numerous departmental and corporate projects involving computer systems upgrades, enhancement of the corporate website tools, work-flow analysis, and overall lead on re-engineering the department.

§ Responsible for staff development and training, including selection of third-party providers, customization and delivery of training and other programs.

§ Responsible for on-going client satisfaction and client relationship management for all pension clients.

§ Provide assistance in the compliance function where required, including liaising with regulators.

Pension Officer

§ Responsible for the review, negotiation, setup, registration, amendment and on-going compliance of a large number of defined contribution pension and deferred profit sharing plans, as well as managing the administration of all defined benefit, Individual Pension Plans.

§ Investigate, research, analyze and resolve complex compliance and administration issues with clients, independent financial advisors, outside agents, internal staff, and pension standards and taxation regulators in all (10) jurisdictions.

§ Act as an “in-house” technical resource to the Groups and Pensions staff, Mackenzie and M.R.S. Trust Company management, the firms’ combined Sales and Marketing teams and external brokers and financial advisors on most matters relating to defined contribution and defined benefit pension plans, as well as deferred profit sharing and foreign plans and retirement schemes.

§ Work with and support the Sales and Marketing team in its efforts to secure and grow both new and existing group business, including participation in client presentations, review of marketing and presentation materials, analysis of existing schemes and working with prospective clients and their financial advisors in resolving any issues that will help to ensure their move to, or selection of, Mackenzie as their carrier of choice.

The Pension Commission is a quasi government agency (“QUANGO”) responsible for the registration, regulation and supervision of all mandatory, privately sponsored pension schemes in Bermuda, as required by law.

§ Responsible for the registration, monitoring and auditing of defined contribution and defined benefit pension plans, including multi-employer and Financial Institution Pension Plans (“FIPP”).

§ Training Commission staff and management in technical and compliance matters, including acting as the in-house pension resource for the Commission members and executive.

§ Drafting and preparation of a comprehensive training and reference manual for staff and management, including training materials and procedures.

Benefits Team Supervisor / Manager, Canadian Specialty Call Centre

§ Managed the day-to-day and long-term operations of the Canadian Specialty Call Centre, including sales and marketing, personnel recruitment and project-specific training, operational budget preparation and control, and ultimately the delivery of the call centre’s diverse "one-off" services.

§ Managed a variety of defined benefit pension and employee group benefits-related projects, individually and simultaneously. Managed all aspects of each project, from the initial sale to staff recruitment and project training, physical set-up of the telephony and computers, in-house resource for Customer Service Representatives and Team Leaders.

§ Prior to the Specialty Call Centre, I was a contract supervisor of a team of Intermediate (Pension) Benefit Administrators involved in the review and processing of benefit option statements on defined benefit pension plan surplus distribution projects.

§ Recruited, supervised, built and managed a team of the best professional pension administrators and advisors, including actuarial staff, to be found in the industry.

§ Prepared operational, status and various financial reports to senior management, clients and regulators and negotiated with clients, advisors, suppliers and regulators on deliverables, timetables and fees.
