CARIS DIAGNOSTICS 2007-2008 Benefits Manager Responsible for this rapidly growing company’s employee benefit plans: self-funded medical plan, dental, vision, FSA, life and disability, EAP, 401(k) and supplemental plans. • Personal contact with C-Level executives and high profile physicians. Responsible for contracts, bids, and requests for proposals for all lines of insurance, and for providing recommendations. Reviewed vendor statements for accurate rates and enrollment data before submitting to finance. • Reviewed, documented, and created processes and workflows for department where none existed before. • Effectively worked with broker/consultant in the bid process for the medical, dental, vision, FSA, EAP, and supplemental plans. RICHARDSON INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT 2004 - 2007 Insurance Services Manager Managed unit of four with a $23 million department budget, covering the needs of 4,600 employees • Managed all record keeping and administrative services for districts self-funded medical, dental, and workers compensation plans, Life and disability, EAP, P&C, Liability, and self-funded theft and vandalism account. • Responsible for contracts, bids, and requests for proposals for all lines of insurance, and provided recommendations to the school board. • Performed medical plan cost containment study and identified changes to the plan, resulting in a leveling of insurance premiums • Conducted monthly Employee Benefit Committee meetings comprised of a cross section of district departments and associations to review the medical plan status, financials, projections, appeals and recommendations. • Implemented an in house COBRA program to bring the district into compliance and reduce administrative time, resulting in a cost savings of $40,000.00 annually • Successfully coordinated the district’s two enrollment periods and annual health fair. Clarified and streamlined enrollment materials and increased vendor participation in the annual health fair. • Created and distributed a quarterly benefits newsletter with benefit information, updates and calendar of events.
PACIFICARE 2003 - 2004 Small Business Center Manager Staffed and managed a unit of seven, producing preliminary new small group health insurance quotes for submission to underwriting. • Developed a unit to process incoming small group insurance quotes from sales representatives in Texas and Oklahoma. • Implemented the following for the small group unit: o Created Access data base to provide sales and management tracking and reports. o Initiated a Quality review process for the preliminary quotes. o Created a batching method to track the 500+ quotes received each week. This reduced back logs and improved the turnaround time from 10 days to less than 48 hours within 3 weeks. o Developed training manual for newly hired employees, sales representatives, and sales coordinators, and conducted training sessions.
