NEW YORK UNIVERSITY, New York, NY Manager of Health & Welfare Plans 6/05 – 7/07
Direct the implementation of Health & Welfare plan initiatives and delivery of high-level customer service of NYU benefit plans to 6,500+ university employees and retirees, with a staff of 12. Ensure compliance with legal requirements, file 5500’s and update summary plan descriptions. Identify technological resources & adaptations needed for efficient delivery of services.
• Coordinated the implementation of a customer service call tracking system, designed to deliver improved service and track the resolution of customer inquires through successful completion.
• Managed the work of Benefit Dept. “Subject Matter Experts” during the conversion of the HRIS platform from Integral to PeopleSoft.
• Successfully led the Open Enrollment process for University plan participants including execution of print materials, website updates, data test and downloads to vendors.
• Effectively transitioned an accounting/finance team into the Benefits Office from the Controller’s Dept., to more effectively perform financial roles.

UBS WEALTH MANAGEMENT USA, (formerly PaineWebber) Weehawken, NJ Manager of Health & Welfare Plans 1/00 – 6/05
Managed financial reporting and HRIS controls, including systems support and user acceptance testing for all Health & Welfare plans. Led all aspects of H&W planning and design, including compliance and vendor management for plans costing $180+ million annually. Managed contract renewals and reviewed RFIs and RFPs when marketing programs for bid.
• Successfully integrated 1,800 employees into the firm’s benefit plans as a result of a firm merger. Integration included extensive employee communication efforts, HRIS platform changes, vendor negotiations and benefit plan closings.
• Led a team of benefit professionals through the development and implementation of a strategy to introduce more price transparency and consumerism into the medical plan, as a result, achieved savings of about $12 million in 2004 alone.
• As Privacy Officer for the firm, assumed a lead role in ensuring plan compliance with HIPAA, ERISA, SOX, state and federal regulations. Initiative included rollout of online training of HR personnel.
• In support of diversity initiatives, implemented new plan features such as: Backup Child Care, Maternity Leave, Adoption Assistance and Domestic Partner Medical Coverage.

Provided financial analysis and reporting to support benefit plan design initiatives and carrier selection. Acted as Subject Matter Expert in interacting with HRIS Department.
• Appointed as liaison to HRIS Division (HRIS). Developed specifications and oversaw implementation of HRIS programming for all benefit plans including Medical, Dental, Life plans. Additionally, coordinated installation of programming for the conversion of the pension plan from a Defined Benefit to Defined Contribution plan.
• Achieved larger-than-expected savings in 1999 rate negotiations with managed care providers, enabling the company to extend benefit offerings to include a dental plan.
