GAO Releases Updated Report on HSAs
The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has issued a report on the status of health savings accounts (HSAs). The report was sent by John E. Dicken, Director, Health Care, to Henry A. Waxman, Chair, House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and Pete Stark, Chair, House Subcommittee on Health, Committee on Ways and Means. In the report,
Health Savings Accounts: Participation Increased and Was More Common among Individuals with Higher Incomes
, the GAO has updated a
2006 report
in which they described individuals’ early experiences with HSA-eligible plans and HSAs and certain characteristics of HSA account holders. For the update, they have examined participation in HSA-eligible high-deductible health plans and HSAs, the income characteristics of HSA account holders, and contributions made to and withdrawals made from HSAs.
