Tips for Searching

Simple Search: Infosource® (EBIS®)

In the Keywords box, type a word or enter a phrase in quotation marks ("cash balance plans") and click the SEARCH button. An OR will be assumed between multiple words without quotation marks.

Advanced Search

Fill in more than one search box; results will meet all criteria. You may enter:

  • A single word or number
  • A phrase in quotation marks
  • Multiple word combinations using AND, OR,  or AND NOT

To search a term with parentheses or other punctuation, use quotation marks around the term. For example:

"401(k)" will find information on 401(k) plans

Use quotation marks and an asterisk (*) to broaden a search by including all word endings. For example:

"pension*" will find pension, pensions, pensioner, pensioners, pensioned

Using the search boxes:

  • Keyword - Will search title, summary and subject terms.
  • Subject Terms - Will search only the subject terms assigned to each article. See Subject List for available descriptors.
  • Title - Will search only the title of the article or book.
  • Author - Will search the author names (last name first; for example, Smith, Robert)
  • Publication Year - Will search one year or a range of years

Use AND, OR, and AND NOT from the drop down boxes at the end of each line to combine search criteria.
