Conference begins in:

FTMS™ and ATMS™ Courses

Foundations of Trust Management Standards (FTMS™)

Friday, August 18-Sunday, August 20, 2017

Trustees play an important role in addressing the health and retirement needs of plan members. New trustees, in particular, must quickly gain an understanding of the basic principles of trust fund management as well as an awareness of knowing where to go in order to make informed decisions. Now you have a solid starting point—the Foundations of Trust Management Standards (FTMS) program. The 2½-day, assessment-based certificate program is the first International Foundation program in Canada to offer trustees an opportunity to validate their learning.

Advanced Trust Management Standards (ATMS™)

Friday, August 18-Saturday, August 19, 2017
Choose Session A or Session B

ATMS is an assessment-based program that expands upon the four key knowledge areas covered in the Foundations of Trust Management Standards (FTMS) program (legal, administration, governance, funding/investment/finance), adding breadth and depth across all four, and deepening the pension and health and welfare applications as well as developing related skills.
These two independent, two-day sessions are offered concurrently in one location. The two-day session approach is sequential (Session A is a prerequisite for Session B). Session A covers legal, administration and related governance issues; Session B covers funding/investment/finance and related governance issues.

ATMS™ Continuing Education (CE) Quality Series

Sunday, August 20, 2017 - 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

The ATMS Continuing Education (CE) Quality Series provides education exclusively for graduates of the ATMS program who have already earned an ATMS certificate under the current or previous curriculum.

These one-day courses delve deeper into the four key knowledge areas discussed in FTMS and ATMS—expanding the application of the information to fit your individual needs. The CE Quality Series provides the opportunity to receive updates and reaffirm your knowledge through intensive, focused instruction and discussion specific to your role and interest. ATMS CE Quality Series courses are participation-based education—and therefore are not tested. Full attendance and participation are required to receive a certificate; please make your travel plans accordingly.

Topic details for 2017 are listed on the ATMS CE Quality Series website.

The Art of Communicating-Finding Your Hidden Styles

Sunday, August 20, 8:00 a.m.-12:00 noon
Registration code: PC04

Understanding your personal communication style and matching it to styles of other people is fundamental to building relationship rapport, confidence and trust. When we are able to flex our communication styles more effectively and avoid everyday language pitfalls, our accuracy, credibility and potential to influence others increase dramatically. With these goals in mind, this highly interactive workshop takes a fresh and creative look at communicating more effectively with the people we interact with every day.

The focus of this session is to add simple, yet powerful, relationship-building techniques to your communication tool kit. You will be able to apply these tools immediately at work (and at home!). The program highlights common verbal barriers, the four common communication styles and critical style-flexing behaviours.

This practical workshop:

  • Takes the mystery out of why you are naturally drawn to some people while being repelled by others, based on communication style
  • Provides tools to prevent communication-style bias and to understand and appreciate styles other than your own
  • Demonstrates how to use language to create more credible messages with higher impact.
