If you're ready for the brightest career future, join us in this excellent opportunity to showcase your talents.  We are currently seeking an experienced Pension Director for our Pension department. 

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and monitor the day-to-day operations of three (3) jointly administered pension plans to ensure financial and operational and compliance
  • Establish and monitor Pension department policies, procedures and standards to ensure level of professionalism and prompt, accurate service to members; periodically review and reengineer processes and procedures to ensure efficiency and accuracy
  • Participate actively with the Chief Pension Officer in business planning process and implement short- and long-term goals and objectives of the Funds
  • Monitor turnaround time and accuracy of the processing of pension applications and payments; follow-up with staff on routine workloads/deliverables as well as special projects
  • Coordinate appeals from members, beneficiaries, or legal representatives; research appeals, confer with the Funds' legal counsel and consultants, and prepare reports for the Trustees' consideration, under the guidance of the Chief Pension Officer
  • Review and resolve (escalated customer service issues such as) member complaints, verbal and written, regarding Plan provisions, payment of benefits and Pension staff
  • Oversee the daily administration of several smaller plans and their mergers into the 1199 Benefit Fund; aid as needed with future plan mergers
  • Responsible for yearly audits and quality control
  • Prepare routine and periodic management reports related to Pension operations as directed by the Chief Pension Officer and Board of Trustees
  • Provide vision, leadership, guidance, motivation and oversee development of Pension staff
  • Counsel and supervise direct reports, Assistant Directors and Managers, as well as oversee supervision of all Pension staff
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained and utilized effectively to accomplish the short- and long-term goals and objectives of the Funds
  • Ensure compliance with administrative, operational, and regulatory procedures for administration of the Funds
  • Work with Chief Pension Officer, IT staff and vendors to ensure that adequate systems and technology are maintained to support the Funds' recordkeeping, and processing needs
  • Work with the Funds' professionals to coordinate actuarial valuations; work with the Funds' auditors in the preparation of auditors' reports and other financial statements
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required. MBA and/or CEBS certification preferred
  • Minimum of eight (8) years management or executive leadership experience at a complex organization; to include six (6) years of supervisory experience required
  • Significant experience in Taft-Hartley or collectively bargained environment required
  • Strong management and leadership skills required; able to coach, mentor, motivate, and create improvement processes
  • Experience with quality control, process improvement, and data integrity
  • Working knowledge of pension benefit plans and benefits administration systems
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, proven "hands-on" managerial style, excellent judgment, and strong work ethic
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with the staff, Union, and employers at all levels as well as outside professionals and service providers
  • Ability to lead and motivate staff and establish and articulate clear goals and objectives
  • Strong project management, analytical, problem –solving, communication, conflict resolution and quality improvement and writing skills
