Congressman Phil Roe to Receive 2014 Public Service Award in Employee Benefits

International Foundation Hosts Annual Washington Legislative Update

Washington D.C.–Congressman Phil Roe (R-TN) will be awarded the 2014 Public Service Award by the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans today at the Foundation's  annual Washington Legislative Update. The International Foundation's Public Service Award recognizes elected representatives and other public officials for their support of employee benefits. Congressman Roe will accept the award at 8 a.m. today in Washington, D.C.

"I am honored to receive this award and remain committed to finishing the work we have started on pension reform. PBGC's multiemployer program is facing insolvency—threatening the benefits of many retirees. I look forward to strengthening and preserving the pensions upon which working Americans and retirees depend," Roe said.

As chair of the Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions, Congressman Roe has demonstrated a deep understanding of the employee benefits industry, and a genuine concern for the retirement security of working Americans.

Ken Boyd, Chair and President of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and award presenter, said the group is appreciative of all that Congressman Roe has done to underscore the importance of the multiemployer pension system.  "In today's highly polarized political atmosphere, it is increasingly rare to find someone who is willing to hear all sides, and truly give consideration beyond the party lines," said Boyd. "Congressman Roe is a valued and appreciated supporter of retirement security for all Americans.

The International Foundation's Washington Legislative Update, held May 5th and 6th at the Capital Hilton, is an annual event that helps keep employee benefit specialists aware of the latest regulatory changes affecting the benefits industry. Participants hear from political and policy insiders on how events in Washington will impact their organizations.
