The growing diversity of the workforce, in all industries, increases the challenge of reaching consensus when it matters most. Each individual at the table has their own vision of what the organization’s processes and outcomes should be. When our mental maps of where we should go and the best route to take don’t match, it can seem as if conflict and dysfunction are inevitable. The implications of mismanaged diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts; decreased productivity; turnover; and legal exposures can feel like a landmine waiting to be triggered by one misstep.
Fortunately, promoting DEI in the workplace does not have to mean an increase in chaos. Leveraging diversity can result in powerful returns in satisfaction, loyalty and productivity.
