Ms. Mazo is senior vice president, director of research for The Segal Company. She is responsible for directing research and providing guidance on public policy, legislative and regulatory issues. Ms. Mazo serves on Segal’s senior management team and chairs its national practice council, a forum for the top leadership of the Company’s professional and technical practices. Prior to joining Segal, she was engaged in private law practice in Washington, D.C., specializing in ERISA and serving as special counsel to the U.S. Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) and as a consultant to the Pension Task Force of the Committee on Education and Labor of the U.S. House of Representatives. Ms. Mazo was senior attorney for the PBGC and executive assistant to their general counsel from 1975 to 1979. She is an active member of the American Bar Association and is past chair of its joint committee on employee benefits. In 2002, she was appointed to the advisory committee of the PBGC by the President of the United States. Ms. Mazo has also served on the U.S. Department of Labor’s ERISA Advisory Council and chaired its working groups on cash balance plans and on disclosures regarding health care quality. In 1998, the National Law Journal listed her as one of the country’s top employee benefit lawyers. Ms. Mazo graduated with honors from Yale Law School and Wellesley College (Wellesley, MA) and has been admitted to the Bar in the District of Columbia and the State of Louisiana. She is a member of the advisory board of the pension research council of the Wharton School and the editorial advisory board of the BNA Pension and Benefits Reporter (co-chair for 2009-2010). A charter fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel, Ms. Mazo served as its vice president for the 2002-2003 term, and was a founding member of its Board.
