RECORDED – June 13, 2017
3:00-4:30 p.m. ET

Canadians spend $24 billion every year on medications. About 1/3 is wasted as it doesn't lead to improved health outcomes. A major contributor to this waste is a mismatch between the individual's genetics and the drugs being prescribed. The current "one-size-fits-all" method of prescribing cannot predict how specific patients will react to their medications (therapeutic efficacy, adverse side effects). In fact, over 90% of North Americans carry at least one genetic variation affecting drug response. This webcast will look at how insights from pharmacogenetic (PGx) science can facilitate medication change required to provide the most effective and safe treatment, in turn reducing group benefits costs and creating better outcomes for plan members.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review components of assessing ROI of precision prescribing in a range of benefits programs
  • Discuss Case Studies illustrating impact on each stakeholder.
