We currently have an opportunity for a Manager, Pension & Retirement Plans in our Human Resources Department located in our Winnipeg Head Office. Reporting to the Director, Pension & Benefits, this position is responsible for managing the Company’s global pension, capital accumulation and retirement plans, policies and processes.

Responsibilities:

•Manage the Company’s retirement plans for 14 employee groups in Canada, U.S. and U.K.; plan types include DB and DC pension plans, RSP, 401(k), and retiree benefits plans
•Develop an effective oversight program for 12 administrative service providers.
•Provide direction and oversight to the Pension & Retirement Plan Specialist responsible for day-to-day plan administration and resolve escalated issues
•Develop and maintain policy and administration guides.
•Create and implement plan member communication strategies and plans in collaboration with other stakeholders; research, write and distribute content across all internal communication channels including but not limited to: videos, intranet, HRIS, service provider systems, and print.
•Keep abreast of pension and income tax legislation and related changes; stay current with competitive practice in plan design, contributions, fees and cost-share
•Advise the Director, Pension & Benefits on new developments and emerging issues related to retirement plans.
•Conduct analysis and make recommendations to ensure market competitiveness, internal alignment and adherence with regulatory requirements (e.g. with respect to company acquisitions, plan redesign, HRIS/service provider reviews, and process improvements).
•Lead retirement plan initiatives such as the RFP process for plan service providers.
•Support the collective bargaining negotiations; includes analyzing proposed changes, costing options and making recommendations.
•Participate in plan governance committees, as a member or contributor, as required.
•Lead the reporting, plan amendment, government filing and regulatory compliance processes, including audits by various regulatory authorities.
•Provide back-up support for finance (i.e. pension cash management, plan expense processing) and for pension & benefits administration.

Qualifications:

•Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Mathematics, Finance or similar discipline from a recognized program and a CEBS or RPA designation.
•7 – 10 years pension administration experience including experience managing pension plans.
•Demonstrated experience managing several DB and DC pension plans in Canada is required.
•Experience with plans regulated by OSFI, as well as with plans governed by a collective agreement, is required.
•Experience with service provider reviews and changes is required.
•International experience is an asset with emphasis on the US and UK.
•Experience developing plan member communications (print, online, videos), is preferred, including communications as a part of change management
•Experience with employee online enrollment systems (HRIS and administrative provider systems) is preferred.
•Experience with the following is desired: a flex DB pension plan; SERP; MEPP; SMEP; 401(k) plan; pension plan master trust; annuitizing pension plan obligations; financial statements for pension plans; accounting valuations for pension and retiree benefit plans; expat pension reviews; pension review for international employees (e.g. Hong Kong, Singapore, Switzerland); retiree benefits plans and health care spending accounts.
•Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with experience presenting information of a complex and technical nature at all levels of the organization and with external service providers
•Above average analytical, problem solving and decision making skills, along with exceptional Excel (xls) skills
•Excellent project management skills complimented with the ability to manage multiple priorities
