Under direct supervision of the AVP – Compensation and Benefits, the Employee Benefits Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day support and administration of the employee benefit programs for APGFCU employees.

• Administer employee health and welfare programs including, but not limited to health, dental, vision, disability insurance, defined benefit and defined contribution plans
• Serve as the liaison for the quarterly 401(k)employee/third party administrator meetings
• Works with the actuaries to ensures pension calculations are accurate prior to being sent to trustee for processing
• Prepare reports and documents necessary for all annual compliance testing and audits
• Process and evaluate 401(k) contribution changes, loans and hardship withdrawals
• Provide day-to-day benefits related research and information to employees and retirees requiring knowledge of the credit union’s benefit plans, programs and policies
• Maintain and update vendor due diligence for retirement vendors
• Review and reconcile monthly reports and invoices for accuracy and resolve discrepancies
• Complete employee exit interviews for retirees
• Handle all Life, Disability and ADD claims for employees
• Serve as the administrator for the Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)
• Process new hire, newly eligible (change of status, etc.) and life event benefit enrollment changes
• Serve as the primary contact for all plan vendors and third party administrators
• Facilitate Human Resources section of new hire orientation
• Coordinate, document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefit processes
• Coordinate and communicate wellness fairs and various employee events
• Respond to employee inquires requiring knowledge of the credit union’s benefit plans, programs and policies
• Serves as back up for administering Family Medical Leave (FMLA)
• Establish a timeline to ensure benefits communications are sent timely throughout the year to employees
• Maintain procedures for all benefit related functions
• Serve as Human Resources Help Desk Administrator
• Serve as main back up for payroll processing as needed
• All other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Hands on knowledge of defined benefit and defined contribution plans
• Working knowledge of self-funded health plans
• Practical knowledge of group dental, life, vision and disability insurance
• Personable, proactive, and able to work in fast paced environment
• Ability to work with a team as well as independently
• Excellent communication skills
• Analytical, project management and organizational skills
• Proficient in Excel and experience with an HRIS/payroll system
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Detail-oriented
• Time management
• Maintain employee confidence and protect benefit operations by keeping information confidential
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred, with 7-10 years’ experience in an Employee Benefits related position or High School diploma with 10+ years’ experience. Defined contribution and defined benefit plan experience preferred.
