About the role:
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular, Full-time Senior Analyst, Pension Advisory and Governance Services to join our dynamic Financial Reporting and Services team.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Pension Strategy, Governance and Secretariat, the key function of the Senior Analyst, Pension Advisory and Governance Services is to support provision of strategic advice and direction to the three Canadian Blood Services pension plan board of trustees and committees relating to the governance and oversight of these pension plans, monitor compliance and perform regular review for improvements of policies, procedures and risk framework and at the same time support pension secretariat services and executing trustees and committees decisions and managing ad hoc requests and projects.

Formula for success:

  • Support development of advice/recommendations to the trustees and committees on pension issues, including but not limited to pension governance, new and amended legislation and regulations, and regulatory guidelines and requirements
  • As required, draft briefing notes on advisory topics including developing recommendation for review/discussion/decision at the trustees’ and committees’ meetings on pension issues including recommendations for future actions
  • Keep abreast on current regulations, regulatory guidelines and best practices over pension governance, including a solid understanding of the Canadian Association of Pension Supervisory Authorities (CAPSA) governance guidelines
  • Maintain and monitor for compliance with, and regularly review/update the governance manual and policies, and risk framework for each of the three pension plans
  • Direct, coordinate, review and provide feedback on meeting materials prepared by service providers to support trustees and committees discussions/decisions
  • Oversee Finance Operations and Project Coordinator’s coordination/organization of trustees and committees meetings and meeting materials, and distribution and maintenance of board/committee documents

Desired education and skills:

  • A University degree required in business, finance, actuarial sciences, governance, policy, administration or law. An equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered
  • Certificates or training in trust management, pension or governance is an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated experience writing policies is highly desirable for this role
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive and relevant work experience is required
  • Current knowledge of CAPSA governance guidelines and Ontario funding rules is an asset
  • Knowledge of pension plan risks, regulations, governance and operations or the ability, willingness and interest to quickly learn about pensions is required
  • Experience in providing support to boards/committees is an asset
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products is required

What you can expect:

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week
  • If you are located outside of Ottawa, you may be required to travel to Ottawa, head office, for board meetings annually or as required
