We are seeking a Senior Health Benefits Consultant to join the East Region. The preferred location would be in the Atlanta office. The Senior Health Consultant is integral to supporting the delivery of a broad and diverse range of group health and welfare benefits consulting services to our clients. The Segal health practice serves clients in the Public Sector, Multi-Employer, and Corporate markets. This role will focus primarily on public sector clients such as state and large local government employee health plans. The position offers significant visibility and client interaction, project management, opportunities to contribute as a leader of client teams and to develop client benefit strategies.

The Role:

The Senior Health Benefits Consultant will collaborate directly with team members including the client relationship manager, actuaries, clinicians, attorneys, and analysts to provide an integrated and thorough approach to meeting clients’ health and welfare benefit needs within demanding timelines. Key accountabilities include:

  • Lead effective strategic discussions with clients.
  • Develop RFPs and evaluate proposals for a variety of health and welfare benefits – primarily for medical, pharmacy and dental but able to coordinate vision, stop loss, life, disability, and other benefit programs.
  • Research topics related to a wide variety of benefit provisions and client questions.
  • Develop project plans and manage multiple client projects simultaneously.
  • Manage various projects across a client, integrating and communicating with a number of practices within Segal.
  • Setting up project management meetings, coordinating with a number of consultants and client teams.
  • Collaborate with consultants and vendors on behalf of clients.
  • Prepare reports and deliver presentations related to the subject material.
  • Gather data to form conclusions and benchmark key utilization and cost statistics to manage clients’ health plans.
  • Analyze and interpret data for a variety of health and welfare benefits, including medical, pharmacy, stop loss, dental, vision, life and disability coverages, and other benefit programs.
  • Understand budget projections.
  • Expand and grow consulting relationships with current clients.
  • Contribute to bringing in new clients to Segal.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree with strong analytical skills.
  • Minimum 10 years of health benefits, consulting, actuarial, managed care, and/or underwriting experience.
  • Experience evaluating vendor proposals and preparing RFPs.
  • Ability to work independently with limited direction and adapt to changing client needs, new market trends and concepts.
  • Strong analytical skills (research, writing, data analyses, reasoning).
  • Action-oriented and detailed.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing conflicting deadlines tactfully.
  • Proficiency in project management.
  • Excellent follow-through and strong communication skills (written and verbal); and
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, with emphasis on Excel.

The current salary range for this position is $130,000 to $165,000 plus opportunity for a discretionary performance bonus based on company profitability and employee performance.
