Description

A benefits provider located in Rockville Maryland is seeking a Controller to oversee the accounting department consisting of 6-10 employees.

The qualified candidate will be responsible for the implementation of management goals, policies, processes and procedures to ensure the accurate and timely process of all accounting related functions. The Controller will employ the general accounting processes of recordkeeping and ensure all compliance deadlines are met as well as providing guidance, help & direction for members of the department.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintain the general ledger system
• Budget planning with all departments
• Tax planning and compliance
• Coordinate with external auditors
• Maintain and update internal auditing processes and procedures
• Develop policies, procedures and programs to meet company objectives
• Informal and formal counseling to employees
• Regularly meet with department and the executive team to discuss department issues, concerns and day to day operations.
• Communicate with other departments to ensure an effective flow of information

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
• CMA or CPA with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
• 10 + years work experience in accounting with at least 5 being in a leadership role.
• Knowledge of employee benefit plans
• Quick learner with the proven ability to work with different management styles.
• Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment.
• Strong critical thinking skills.
