Job Purpose:
The Director of Employer Services works under the direction of the Executive Director and is responsible for oversight, management, vision, and leadership to ensure the department meets or exceeds standards in representing the IAM National Pension Fund to employers and union representatives joining, contributing to, or withdrawing from the Fund. The Director is to exercise active leadership to manage and improve the Funds’ operations, including the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure operational efficiency, compliance with Fund Plan documents, and regulations. The Director must also direct and motivate the Fund Office staff and keep and maintain effective relationships with collective bargaining parties and others on behalf of the Funds.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Oversees the daily operations of the Employer Services Department
• Supervises and directs Fund personnel to ensure policies, procedures and standards of operation are met and adhered to
• Conducts regular staff meetings with management staff and reviews reports to keep apprised of day-to-day operational and staff issues
• Actively participates with the Board of Trustees in the business planning process and implementation of short and long term goals and objectives of the Fund
• Develops strategies to enhance Fund operations and services
• Coordinates and reviews appeals with the Administrative Committee
• Compliance in accordance with Fund Plan documents, policies and regulations
• Liaison for Benefit Coordinators
• Handle escalated issues from Employers and Union Reps
• Prepares reports for and participates in Board of Trustees meetings
• Member of and actively participates in the Executive Leadership Team
• Team building and goal development

Financial
• Develops and monitors annual department budget
• Review monthly Unaudited Income and Expense Report
• Brings non-routine expenses to Board of Trustees for approval

Knowledge
• Knowledge of budget management
• In-depth knowledge of benefit plan design, administration, and compliance
• Understanding of employee benefit plan and non-profit organization compliance

Skills
• Strong customer service orientation and communication skills, both verbal and written
• Excellent analytical, organizational and management skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with staff at all levels
• Identify and anticipate the service requirement of bargaining parties and craft and deliver the appropriate messaging

• Advanced Microsoft Office skills
• Strong multi-tasking skills and attention to detail with high level of accuracy
• Proven leadership skills

Abilities
• Ability to manage and lead Fund personnel through influence and collaboration
• Ability to identify key business issues and develop appropriate action plans from various perspectives
• Ability to understand the in-depth functions of a complex department and understand where departmental workload affects other departments in the Fund office
• Ability to train and motivate staff
• Ability to evaluate and review progress for assigned staff, and direct changes as needed
• Ability to adapt and work effectively with different personality and work styles
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritize work, and meet deadlines
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and adapt to change quickly
• Ability to maintain confidentiality

Education/Licensure/Certification:

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management Studies or similar field or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management Studies or similar field
• Certified Employee Benefit Specialist designation
• Seven years of experience in strategic planning and related communications
