Job Summary
The Benefits Manager leads day-to-day operations for the defined benefit pension and defined contribution annuity/401(k) plans of a local union. The Benefits Manager works independently and serves as the primary point of contact for participants, local union leadership, trustees, vendors, and service providers.

Responsibilities
• Ensure the accurate entry of participant wage and benefit data
• Respond to participant inquiries and assist with benefits eligibility and applications
• Serve as point person for annual plan audits for 5500 filings
• Work with service providers, i.e., legal counsel, actuaries, financial advisors, insurance brokers, auditors, and other consultants, to ensure compliance and provide participant services
• Develop and maintain expert knowledge of plan provisions
• Maintain database of participant earning and benefit history for use in benefit and other union calculations
• Ensure that plan, statutory and regulatory requirements are met, e.g., filing deadlines, participant communications, required minimum distributions, etc.
• Organize and lead Trustee meetings
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the Trustees

Knowledge and Skills
• Bachelors degree
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, with the ability to build and interpret Excel spreadsheets using pivot tables, vlookup/xlookup, and other formulas
• Ability to work efficiently and accurately with detailed datasets
• Ability to work effectively without day-to-day oversight or specific intermediate deadlines
• Organizational and time management skills to track and meet deadlines
• Problem solving skills to handle novel situations
• CEBS certification and/or experience with multiemployer plans a plus
