Benefits Representative

Come and be a part of the City of Edmonton's Employee Service Centre (ESC) dynamic team! As a Benefits Representative, you'll be responsible for efficient benefits functions that support over 14,000 City employees throughout 8 different departments.

Working with a team of professionals, you will provide efficient solutions and services to the entire organization in a manner that focuses on accuracy, timeliness and exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment, your day could include the following:

  • Process and audit new hires and benefits administration for union and non-union employees
  • Process and verify employee benefit changes and deductions; administer employee leave plans
  • Process and ensure accuracy of pay and benefits documents for employee onboarding and transfers
  • Provide interpretation regarding collective agreements, administrative policies and legislative changes
  • Provide benefits information in accordance with Collective Agreements, third party processes and applicable legislation
  • Create, maintain and inactivate permanent and temporary positions in the Human Resources Information System (HRIS)
  • Process organizational structure and related cost centre changes
  • Research, problem solve and respond to individual employee pay and benefit enquiries received in a continuous phone queue system, email or chat
  • Human Resources Information System (HRIS) projects and testing, as required

Qualifications:

  • Completion of the twelfth (12) school grade
  • Designation as a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP), or a certificate in benefits administration or human resources administration from a recognized post-secondary institute or professional association
  • Minimum three (3) years related progressively responsible experience in end-to-end union benefits and/or employee transaction administration, including data reconciliation, in a large corporate environment

Assets:

  • Experience with payroll system upgrades

Skills required for success:

  • Relevant experience using PeopleSoft and SAP SuccessFactors (or similar HRIS software)
  • Experience interpreting and applying Collective Agreements for benefits purposes
  • Highly developed customer service skills and proactive problem-solving abilities, in addition to being able to manage multiple priorities with the ability to meet constant deadlines
  • Ability to be an active and positive team player
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, & Excel and Google: Docs, Sheets & Gmail and organization charting software (eg. OrgPlus)

Conditions of Employment:

  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

Work Environment:

  • Note: This position ​may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement ​with ​the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52​
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
  • This position is eligible for the EDO program (Earned Day Off)

Salary: $28.274 - $35.482 (Hourly); $59,036 - $74,086 (Annually)
