IRS Releases Proposed Regulations on Trump Accounts

The Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) released two notices of proposed rulemaking that address general requirements of Trump accounts, making an election to open a Trump account and making an election for an eligible child to receive a $1,000 pilot program contribution.
Future regulations will address contributions, investments, distributions, reporting, and other special rules and coordination with IRA rules.

Comments on the Trump Accounts proposed rule are due May 8, 2026.
Trump Accounts Contribution Pilot Program Proposed Rule [ IRS News Release]
- Eligible children must be U.S. citizens with valid Social Security numbers born in 2025 through 2028.
- How to make an election for the Trump account of an eligible child to receive a $1,000 pilot program contribution
