IRS Issues Updated Static Mortality Tables for Defined Benefit Pension Plans for 2027 Valuations

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) released Notice 2026-27, updating static mortality tables for calculating the funding target and for use in determining minimum present value for distributions with annuity starting dates that occur during stability periods beginning in the 2027 calendar year.

The mortality tables are to be used for defined benefit pension plans under § 430(h)(3)(A) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) and section 303(h)(3)(A) of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA).
