Potential Trustee Directory
Tim Linville
Summary of Work
After working seven years as a management side labor attorney, I began serving as a management-appointed trustee for retirement (DB and DC), health care, and apprenticeship training plans in 2010. I currently serve as trustee to plans in eight different construction trades. Through my role in CEA, I appoint roughly 50 management Taft-Hartley trustee seats. Serving on a wide variety of funds and comparing the advice and services of multiple different fund service providers has given me a valuable perspective on effective fund governance. I understand the importance of a trustee's diligence and attention to detail while keeping sight of a fund's long-term health and stability. Attending meetings in person and working with fellow trustees with a partnering approach is critical to trustee service. As an industry representative, it is also critical to regularly communicate with the employers I serve so that I am well informed as a trustee and employers are well informed about the funds in which they and their employees participate. Some unique experiences I have as a trustee include negotiating multi-state fund mergers, making hard decisions concerning benefit cutbacks under the Multiemployer Pension Reform Act ("MEPRA"), applying for and receiving Special Financial Assistance enabling the restoration of benefit cuts, and testifying for the fund during Department of Labor audits.
