Assistant VP, Benefits and Total Rewards

Pace University is seeking a strategic and people-focused leader to oversee our Total Rewards function, including benefits, compensation, retirement programs, and compliance. Reporting to the VP & Chief Human Resources Officer, this role plays a key part in shaping programs that attract, retain, and support top talent across the University. The Assistant Vice President will lead a team of HR professionals and partner closely with Finance, Legal, senior leadership, and external vendors to ensure our total rewards programs are competitive, compliant, and aligned with the University’s mission and goals.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the strategy and administration of health & welfare benefits, compensation, retirement, and wellness programs
- Develop equitable and competitive total rewards programs that enhance the employee experience
- Oversee compensation planning, salary structures, market alignment, and executive compensation
- Manage vendor relationships, contract negotiations, and benefits program performance
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations including ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, FMLA, IRS, and DOL requirements
- Oversee retirement and health plan fiduciary responsibilities, audits, regulatory filings, and compliance reporting
- Partner with HR and University leadership on budgeting, incentives, workforce planning, and union-related compensation matters
- Lead and mentor a high-performing Total Rewards team while driving operational excellence and continuous improvement
What We’re Looking For
- Deep expertise in benefits, compensation, retirement plans, and HR compliance
- Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Experience managing complex benefits programs, vendor negotiations, and regulatory requirements
- Strategic thinker with the ability to balance employee experience, compliance, and financial stewardship
- Ability to collaborate effectively with senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders

- Hybrid work arrangement
- Monday–Friday business hours with flexibility as needed
- Travel between Pace campuses in NYC, Pleasantville, and White Plains may be required
