The National Elevator Industry Benefit Plans (“NEI” or “Plans”) are seeking a dynamic and visionary Executive Director to oversee the administration and strategic direction of three major benefit plans and related ancillary plans, serving over 122,000 participants and retirees nationwide.
As Executive Director, you will be entrusted with the chief executive responsibility for the day-to-day administration of the National Elevator Industry Pension Plan, National Elevator Industry Health Benefit Plan, and Elevator Constructors Annuity and 401(k) Retirement Plan, as well as two single employer retirement plans and a property trust. You will report directly to the Plans’ Boards of Trustees and collaborate with a diverse team of plan professionals, Trustees, and Benefits Office staff to ensure the highest standards of service and compliance.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned benefits administration professional who has experience with large multiemployer benefit plans, a proven track record of leadership and the ability to drive a team towards excellence with minimal supervision. This is a full-time, onsite position that demands a commitment to operational excellence and providing superior service to NEI’s stakeholders.

The Job
- Plan Administration: Oversee the complete and accurate administration of all benefit plans, ensuring compliance with ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, and the Plans’ governing documents.
- Benefits Office Operations: Lead a staff of approximately 90 professionals, manage an annual operating budget of $8.5 million, and ensure operational excellence across all departments. Champion process improvement, operational efficiency, and outstanding member service.
- Financial Stewardship: Direct Finance and Management Information Systems (MIS) operations, manage cash flows of $380 million per year in receipts and disbursements, and oversee payroll and benefits adjudication for thousands of participants.
- Regulatory Compliance: Navigate complex regulations (ERISA, DOL, IRC, HIPAA, ACA, PPA) and drive organizational compliance, ensure timely and accurate filings with regulatory agencies, consulting with outside professionals (e.g., auditors, attorneys, actuaries, etc.) on compliance requirements and other matters as needed.
- Communications: Develop and distribute plan-related notices, disclosures, and correspondence to Trustees, participants, employers, and regulatory bodies.
- Leadership & Management: Set performance and quality standards, provide guidance and motivation, and foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Public Representation: Serve as the public face of the Plans, conducting seminars and speaking engagements nationwide to union representatives, plan participants and stakeholders.
- Legal & HR Oversight: Make sound business decisions to minimize litigation risk, review vendor contracts, and oversee HR policies, hiring, terminations, and compensation.
- Technology & Cybersecurity: Collaborate with IT teams and vendors to ensure robust technology infrastructure and cybersecurity best practices.
- Property Management: Oversee the Benefits Office building, working with property management firms to manage budgets, improvements, and tenant relations.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree required. CEBS certification or advanced or professional degree in business, management, or a related field strongly preferred.
- Must have significant (10+ years) experience administering large multiemployer Taft-Hartley retirement and health plans.
- Strong knowledge of employee benefits laws, accounting, finance, insurance, and actuarial concepts.
- Proven leadership and management skills in complex organizational settings.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, and a passion for serving others.
- Understanding of benefits administration systems and current technologies.
- Commitment to regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and strategic growth.
To Apply
NEI offers a competitive salary range of $310,000 to $325,000 commensurate with experience and a comprehensive benefits package including a generous healthcare plan along with DB and DC benefits and paid vacation, holiday, and sick leave.
