Manager, Actuary Services

CEBS Requirement: Preferred

Regina, SK

Plannera Pensions & Benefits (Plannera) is a purpose-driven, not-for-profit corporation stewarding more than $17 billion in assets on behalf of over 112,000 members across Saskatchewan extending to more than 900 employers, including provincial Crown corporations, municipalities, school divisions, and the Government of Saskatchewan.

Manager, Actuary Services
Shape the actuarial foundation of one of Canada’s most trusted pension and benefits organizations.

The Opportunity to Shape What’s Next
As Manager, Actuarial Services, you will lead the evolution of an emerging internal actuarial function within a sophisticated, purpose-driven organization. Reporting to the Director, Strategy and Business Development, you will provide strategic actuarial oversight, ensure plan sustainability, and guide the refinement of funding policies that underpin the long-term health of Plannera’s pension and benefit plans.

This is a highly collaborative and visible role at the intersection of technical analysis and strategic insight. You will interpret valuation results, advise on actuarial assumptions, and translate complex findings into accessible, actionable intelligence for executives, boards, and trustees. You’ll also manage the relationship with Plannera’s external actuaries, ensuring consistent quality, compliance, and value for money, while gradually building internal capacity.

The successful candidate will play a central role in ensuring regulatory compliance, strengthening actuarial literacy across the organization, and embedding actuarial thinking in policy, funding, and decision-making. Over time, this position offers the opportunity to shape an in-house practice that supports multiple plans and contributes directly to the long-term security of Plannera’s members.

The Kind of Professional Who Thrives Here
Professionals who thrive at Plannera are analytical, composed, and values driven. They take satisfaction in precision and purpose, grounding their technical expertise in the service of members.

They are trusted interpreters of complexity, capable of distilling actuarial results into clear, meaningful insight for non-technical audiences. They bring curiosity and composure, balancing rigour with pragmatism. They collaborate easily across functions, earning respect for their clarity, integrity, and responsiveness. They are both strategic and hands-on, comfortable moving between detailed analysis and broad organizational conversations.

Above all, they find purpose in contribution over recognition. They take pride in building the processes, insight, and trust that ensure the sustainability of plans relied upon by thousands of public servants, educators, and community members across Saskatchewan.

Credentials That Distinguish You

  • You bring a strong foundation in actuarial science, funding strategy, and regulatory compliance.
  • A degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline is required; progress toward or completion of an actuarial designation (ASA, ACIA, or FCIA) is preferred.
  • 5+ years of actuarial or analytical experience within pensions, benefits, or insurance, ideally with exposure to public sector plans.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Income Tax Act (Canada), The Pension Benefits Act, 1992 (Saskatchewan), and CIA standards and practices.
  • Experience in funding policy, valuation analysis, and risk management frameworks.
  • Proven ability to translate technical data into accessible insights and present clearly to executives, boards, and regulatory bodies.
  • Experience managing external actuarial consultants, including RFP processes and performance oversight, is an asset.

The Impact You’ll Make
At Plannera, every analysis has purpose. As Manager, Actuarial Services, you will help shape strategies that ensure the sustainability and integrity of retirement income for thousands of members. Your expertise will inform policy, funding, and governance decisions that define the organization’s long-term resilience.

This is an opportunity to leave a lasting mark, building capability, enhancing insight, and contributing to the confidence and security of those who depend on Plannera every day.
