Senior Manager of Benefits and Pension Services

The UFCW Unions and Employers Benefits Administration, LLC. (The Fund Office), is located in Atlanta, Georgia, and administers Pension, Health and Welfare, and Legal benefits for eligible Union employees across the United States. We are a growing team of 60 employees. We are a vibrant, multi-generational, and multicultural team currently serving 8 states and counting.

JOB SUMMARY

Our new Senior Manager of Pension and Benefit Services will join our Leadership team to bring experience and solid leadership to our day-to-day operations. The Sr. Manager of Pension & Benefit Services is responsible for the oversight and management of three (3) business units that are comprised of Pension, Eligibility & Enrollment, and Benefits Services. Each business unit has a manager and/or supervisor, and a team lead to address day-to-day responsibilities.

  • Eligibility and Enrollment Services: A phone unit responsible for answering health & welfare benefits questions and processing documents for active members, retirees, and providers. This business unit does not pay or process claims. The work in this business unit focuses on Eligibility and Enrollment.
  • Pension Services: This unit provides complete administration of all pension-related responsibilities: calls regarding estimates and applications, application processing, payment issuance, tax forms, actuarial valuations, and a biannual newsletter.
  • Benefits Services: This business unit is responsible for Short-Term Disability (Time-Loss), Life Insurance, and Subrogation claims processing, along with the Imaging and Correspondence Center. These business units are responsible for verifying and processing claims and check processing. The imagining and correspondence center is responsible for mail operations, imaging, and indexing to ensure all participant information is received and entered into the benefit system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees the execution of the operational plans for the business units identified above and sets operational standards, develops business plans and strategic initiatives, prioritizes resources and plans, assesses operational, business, and member service needs, and related activities.
  • Develops, implements, and updates policies, procedures, programs, and workflows to meet the goals established by the Executive Director and Assistant Executive Director.
  • Considerable knowledge of the federal, state, and local laws, precedents, guidelines, and regulations governing pension plans.
  • Responsible for the interpretation and analysis of new pensions legislation and developing the appropriate systems and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Knowledge of various forms of employee pension programs, as well as operational knowledge of actuarial principles, Social Security and tax laws
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and applicable laws and statutes concerning employee and retiree pension administration
  • Ensures operations are in compliance with applicable laws, regulatory requirements, benefit plan provisions, and policies and procedures.
  • Assists the Executive Director and Assistant Executive Director in interpreting, communicating, and implementing the Board of Trustees’ directions and plans.
  • Provides guidance on trust fund rules, policies, and benefit plan provisions.
  • Prepares regular, detailed reports for the Board of Trustees on the activities and performance of each business unit.
  • Mentors, coaches, and trains supervisory and management staff.
  • Develops and maintains effective and appropriate working relationships within and outside of the organization and service providers.
  • Provides support to the Executive Director and Assistant Executive Director, as needed.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and at least 7-10 years of related experience, including management experience.
  • A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in a collectively bargained environment.
  • Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) certification.
