
Sessions Include:
8:00 AM - 10:00 AM
This section will teach the trustees about good Governances. Topics include: Governance Defined, Decision-Making, Leadership, Culture, and Effective Governance. Participants will engage in situational case studies and report on lessons learned.
10:15 AM - 11:45 AM
Review demographic information about program participants and areas of concern they and the industry are dealing with. This section is designed to aid the critical thinking process by providing tools that you can take back to deal with difficult or deficient processes. Participants will undertake an exercise to consider opportunities to improve processes and a self-assessment to identify areas for self-improvement.
12:15 PM - 2:15 PM
This section is designed to teach trustees how to best use their Fund Professionals: Administrator, Attorney, Actuary, Investment Consultant and Health Care Consultant Each profession represented will share best practices for working with them from a content, process and efficiency perspective. This section also focuses on best practices from each professional for trustees to consider relative to their specific discipline.
2:30 PM - 4:00 PM
One of the necessary attributes of a successful trustee is communication skills. So many situations arise when dealing with your board, your plan professionals, and your membership that require effective and efficient communication. At the same time, technology advancements and artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the communications landscape. This session will be devoted to honing your communication skills to help you develop as a leader, engage with the multigenerational workforce, manage through conflict and consider broadly how to navigate the complexities of delivering benefits in today’s environment.
8:00 AM - 10:15 AM
Using provided data and market information, this section includes a series of exercises to evaluate investment strategies. Through discussion and reporting, participants learn how to interpret data and evaluate performance as they recommend strategies.
10:30 AM - 11:45 AM
This section includes a series of case studies on issues relating to: Investments, Legal, Accounting, Health Care and Retirement. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in two of the five topical areas and will work with a team to identify the issues and develop solutions and strategies to address. Through discussion and reporting, the faculty will challenge assumptions and offer insights on their group responses.
12:15 PM - 1:30 PM

This section will report on the Future Challenges that the participants shared in their pre-course survey. The Expert panel of speakers will also share their insights on those issues and thoughts/perspectives on where they see challenges in the future for their discipline and the benefits industry.

This session will examine real-life scenarios that demonstrate the fine line between outside interests and the interests of the participants.
