Accounting Supervisor

Overview:

The Central Pension Fund of the International Union of Operating Engineers and Participating Employers (“Central Pension Fund”)—one of the largest and most well-funded multiemployer pension plans in the United States—is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Accounting Supervisor for its Accounting Department in Washington, D.C.

The Accounting Supervisor works closely with the Fund’s Controller and Assistant Controller to develop and implement systems and procedures for collecting, analyzing, verifying and reporting financial information. In addition to these responsibilities, the Accounting Supervisor assists in managing the daily functions of the Accounting Department and provides supervisory direction and oversight of the Fund’s unionized workforce.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

An ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and possess exemplary analytical, research, and accounting skills. Specific job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Ensure all financial transactions are accounted for in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles;
• Maintain internal controls and safeguards for receipt of employer contributions, benefit expenses, and administrative expenses;
• Perform periodic budget to actual comparison analysis;
• Prepare reconciliations and supporting schedules for monthly and annual close;
• Update and monitor cash flow forecasting;
• Prepare supporting schedules for annual external audit;
• Supervise and train accounting department direct report employees;
• Prepare tax filings;
• Manage Accounts Payable processing;
• Prepare journal entries for posting to the General Ledger;
• Process biweekly payroll;
• Assist in preparing financial statements and other required reports;
• Manage operational data and maintain data accuracy and integrity.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field;
• CPA preferred;
• 3 or more years of relevant experience in accounting and financial reporting, which would preferably include supervisory experience;
• Strong working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and tax regulations;
• Proficiency with accounting and payroll software (including Sage Intacct and ADP Workforce Now);
• Experience with pension plans and Form 5500 preferred;
• Strong and effective communication skills, both verbal and written;
• Excellent organizational and time management skills;
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
