Pipe Trades Services MN, Inc.(“PTSMN”), located in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, is actively seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive Director. This key role reports directly to the Boards of Trustees and is responsible for overseeing all aspects related to the administration of four (4) multiemployer benefit trust funds, including a self-insured welfare fund, a retiree health trust, a defined benefit pension fund and a defined contribution pension supplement fund (collectively referred to as the “Funds”). The Executive Director is also responsible for monitoring the contribution obligations of approximately 300 contributing employers and coordinating the operations of PTSMN’s four (4) near-site health clinics. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned benefits administration professional with a proven track record of leadership and the ability to drive a team towards excellence with minimal supervision. This is a full-time, onsite position that demands a hands-on approach and a commitment to operational excellence and providing superior service to the Funds’ stakeholders.
PTSMN administers health and retirement benefits for eligible participants who are members of the Minnesota Pipe Trades Association (“Association”). The Association is comprised of 11 Local Unions located throughout the State of Minnesota, representing over 9,000 Plumbers, Pipefitters, Sprinklerfitters, Gasfitters, HVAC and Service Technicians. The Job
- Lead a service organization and a committed team of 13 professionals, fostering a culture of service excellence and collaboration.
- Ensure seamless, compliant administration of four Taft-Hartley benefit funds, overseeing more than $3.5 billion in assets.
- Direct all financial operations associated with the Fund Office and administration of the Funds, ensuring diligent management of resources and oversight of office facilities.
- Champion process improvement, operational efficiency, and outstanding member service.
- Advise Trustees, shape organizational strategy, communicate with members, local unions, and employers, and represent the Funds at critical meetings (internally and externally).
- Navigate complex regulations (ERISA, DOL, IRC, HIPAA, ACA, PPA) and drive organizational compliance, consulting with outside professionals (e.g., auditors, attorneys, actuaries, etc.) on compliance requirements and other matters as needed
- Provide oversight of all the Funds’ vendors, regularly monitoring and evaluating their performance to ensure alignment with service agreements and organizational standards.
- Remain informed of all plan provisions for the Funds and maintain understanding of ERISA, IRC, PPACA, and HIPAA requirements and other areas of fiduciary responsibility.
- Actively network and participate in benefit administration industry organizations and interest groups supporting Taft-Hartley benefit plans.
What You’ll Bring
The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:
- At least 10 years of progressive experience in benefit plan administration, including 5+ years in senior management.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in a related field or CEBS certification preferred.
- Taft-Hartley or experience in collectively bargained environment experience highly valued.
- Proven leadership, strategic thinking, and an empowering management style.
- Understanding of benefits administration systems and current technologies.
- Excellent communication, organizational skills, and a passion for serving others.

PTSMN offers a competitive salary range of $250,000 – $300,000 commensurate with experience and a comprehensive benefits package that includes fully employer paid health coverage in an exceptional health plan, a defined benefit pension plan, a defined contribution retirement plan, paid time off, as well as other benefits.
