The 2026 GLP-1 Drugs Pulse Survey: Canadian Respondents examines how Canadian employers are addressing coverage and policy decisions related to GLP-1 medications, traditionally used for diabetes management and weight loss. Survey results show that 37% of employers now cover GLP-1 drugs for both conditions—an increase from 31% in 2025. Additional insights from the report include:
- The most common cost-control mechanisms in place for GLP-1 drugs for weight loss are utilization management (54%), eligibility requirements (38%), annual maximum (35%), and step therapy (23%).
- Methods for covering GLP-1 drugs were as a prescription drug within a medical plan (85%), through a dedicated weight management vendor point solution (12%), and as a supplemental drug rider (4%).
