In May 2013, Jay K. Egelberg became a consulting actuary in the Times Square office of First Actuarial Consulting, Inc. (FACT). Prior to joining FACT, he coordinated the development of another major firm’s national actuarial and consulting services to U.S. multiemployer funds. He has 40 years of experience with retirement programs, helping clients address design, funding, compliance, administration and communication issues. For the last 30 years, he has been focusing on multiemployer pension plans and has experience with funds of all sizes in a wide variety of industries, including manufacturing, building and construction, entertainment, retail and transportation. Egelberg is a frequent speaker at trustee and professional education conferences for actuaries and attorneys, and he is an author on issues relating to funding under the Pension Protection Act of 2006, the Multiemployer Pension Reform Act of 2014 and withdrawal liability. He serves as a contributing editor of the Journal of Pension Benefits for multiemployer issues. He has championed mentoring and training programs for actuarial students and has been a frequent speaker at the International Foundation. Egelberg begins a third term as a member of the International Foundation’s Professionals Committee and leads the team developing a multiemployer track under the pension section of the Annual Meeting Committee of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries. He has been called upon to serve as an expert witness in matters relating to withdrawal liability and recently completed an assignment as an investigative actuary for the Actuarial Board for Counseling and Discipline established by the American Academy of Actuaries. Egelberg is an associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA), a fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries (FCA), a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA®), and an Enrolled Actuary under ERISA. Egelberg holds a B.A. degree in music and physics from Queens College of the City University of New York.
