E-Learning Continuing Education
International Foundation e-learning courses may qualify for continuing education (CE) credit. Guidelines for obtaining CE can be found below:
CEBS Compliance Credit
E-learning courses are eligible for CEBS compliance credit, which is reported automatically to your profile following successful course completion. You do not need to self-report this activity.
U.S. courses are equal to the credit value posted in the course description and Canadian courses are equal to 4 compliance credits.
Human Resource Professionals (SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP | PHR/SPHR/GPHR)
The International Foundation has sought general pre-approval from HRCI and SHRM for most e-learning courses. Refer to the Credit Hours table to determine how many credit hours are awarded for each course.
State Licensing and Other Professional Education Credit Information
The International Foundation's e-learning courses can be used to meet licensing and other continuing professional education requirements. While the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans does not issue CEUs, most state boards that oversee the licensure of professionals or organizations requiring recertification credit for professional designations will accept International Foundation programs and courses for their continuing education requirements. The Foundation’s procedures for course development, retention of records, and length of class hours are in compliance with most mandated professional continuing education regulations.
It is important to note that credit hours and filing procedures vary by discipline and state. The following information is provided to give you a basic understanding of the continuing education credit available for completing an e-learning course. Please contact the International Foundation’s Continuing Education Department if you have any questions.
Insurance Producers
Insurance Continuing Education Credit is available in some states for e-learning courses. Please select your license state below to see which courses are approved in your state and how many credits are available. If your license state or a course does not appear in the drop-down below, credit is not approved. Some states require that the course exam be monitored. Please select your license state below for approval information and monitor requirements. A "Yes" listed under the Proctored column indicates an In Person Proctor/monitor and a completed CE Monitor Form are required for administration of credit. To earn insurance continuing education credit, the CE Request Form must be filled out and returned PRIOR to completing the course exam.
Select your state from the drop-down list below.
Insurance Agents—Canada
Insurance professionals licensed in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Ontario can use Canadian e-learning courses to meet continuing education requirements.
- Retirement Plan Courses
Each course is approved for credit in both Alberta and Manitoba. - Group Benefit Courses
Each course is approved for credit in both Alberta and Manitoba.
Property/Casualty Agents
Credit is not deemed to be "technical" insurance credit for property/casualty license holders.
CPAs
At the present time, the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of group-live programs only. Therefore, credit cannot be earned for self-study programs, including the e-learning courses.
Attorneys
Credit is contingent upon whether the state granting credit accepts self-study courses. The e-learning courses have not been submitted for pre-approval to any CLE state. Attorneys generally are more successful in receiving CLE credit if they apply for credit on an individual basis and explain how the content of the particular course relates to their practice of law. For assistance contact the International Foundation’s Continuing Education Department.
Certified Financial Planners
Effective January 1, 2006, CE taken by CFP certificants to meet the renewal requirement must be taken from CE sponsors who are registered with CFP Board. The International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans is a registered CE sponsor with the CFP Board and has been assigned Sponsor ID# 286. The only programs that must be pre-approved by the CFP Board are programs that meet CFP Board’s two-hour Code of Ethics and/or Practice Standards requirement. Even though the e-learning courses have not been pre-approved by the CFP Board, it still may be possible to earn credit. The CFP certificant is responsible for determining whether a course meets CFP Board requirements and is qualified for CE credit. Certificants may call or write CFP Board to verify acceptance.
Enrolled Actuaries
The International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans is an accepted sponsor under Section 20, CFR Part 901(g)(2)(iii) of the final Rules and Regulations governing those enrolled to perform actuarial services under ERISA. It is the actuary’s responsibility to identify “core” and “non-core” credit hours.
